Making the jump from indie label to mainstream is always scary for any band. Sure, you have the potential to earn a buttload more money and become super famous but you also run the risk of alienating your underground fans, putting out a sucky first major label album and end up with no new fans and old ones that hate you.

For the boys of AFI, going major label seems to be the best decision they ever made. Like most everyone else, I was turned off when I first heard that AFI decided to go bigtime. Totally lame, right? Very Proud Of Ya and Black Sails In The Sunset were both huge albums for me growing up but when Sing The Sorrow came out, I didn't even want to hear it.

As stubborn as I am, I have to say that when I finally did give it a chance, I was pleasantly surprised. AFI may not be the fast and furious punk band they used to be but they've grown into something much bigger. It's kinda punk, kinda emo, kinda dark but all around unique. No other band sounds like AFI and to this day, no other band puts on a similar show. Head on over to HOB on the 31st to see for yourself. Whether you're a new fan, an old fan or just bored on a Sunday night, check out AFI.
