When you walk into a Hot Topic, you can't help but notice the ominous wall of tees that stares you down as if to say" take one of us home or we WILL come after you." The tee wall is always comprised of a few usual suspects (regardless of which locale your particular Topic may be in), among those suspects are: Fall Out Boy, Sublime, Green Day, As I Lay Dying and My Chemical Romance.
My Chemical Romance is one of those pop rock-ish radio friendly, MTV2 poster boy bands that throngs of screaming pre teens love through and through while the slightly older, slightly more informed crowd is less convinced. For that reason, we're going to disregard the band but rather, focus on their rhythm guitar player, Frank Iero. After achieving much success as a member of MCR, Iero has delved into a new avenue of music: hardcore. While he is still a member of MCR, Iero has made waves recently with his work in his new side project, Leathermouth.
Leathermouth is a sort of rotating musical collective. That is to say that the band really only has two full-time members: Iero on vocals and Rob Hughes on guitar. When recording or playing live, the band's amount of members and types of instruments varies. Not that you'd ever really know the difference, because the band typically wears disguises of some manner while performing and the people behind them could literally be ANYBODY (and Iero knows a good amount of famous musicians that he could ask to help him out).
Originally formed in 2007, Leathermouth has just released their debut, XO this month. The band's sound is a mixture of screamo, hardcore and metal and is definitely a departure from Iero's work in MCR. Check out Leathermouth.
